Registration

You will be able to apply for properties through Home Options Newport if you have an active Home Options application.

In order to register on Home Options Newport, you will need to complete the online application form. If you do not have access to the internet then you will need to contact us and assistance can then be provided. Once your application is completed, this will be passed to a member of staff who will assess your circumstances against the policy. Applications are not automatically accepted and there will be a delay between registering and having your application activated which can take upto approx 12 - 16 weeks. Once your application is activated, you will be allowed to bid for up to four advertised properties each week. If you are a tenant of of one of the partner Housing Associations you will be able to bid in the same way for a transfer.

Completing the registration form fully will enable staff to assess your application band and whether you are eligible to be considered for re-housing. Failure to provide a full five year address history will result in your application not being processed and us contacting you to complete all the outstanding information.

We will write to tell you when you are accepted onto the Home Options Newport scheme. This could be through an email or letter and will provide you with:

  • Your housing application number.
  • The band and points your application has been awarded, together with your priority date.
  • The number of bedrooms you are entitled to be considered for.

Keeping your information up to date

It is very important that you keep your details up to date. You must tell us if there are any changes in your circumstances so that we can reassess your application and if necessary make changes to your band. Failure to do this may mean that you miss out on a new home. Giving false information could result in your application being cancelled or in you being prosecuted for providing false information.  This Council and its partners are under a duty to protect the public funds it administers, and to this end may use the information you have provided on this form for the prevention and detection of fraud. It may also share this information with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds for these purposes. Further information can be found on the Council's web pages or alternatively you can contact Newport City Council and ask for the Chief Internal Auditor.

You should notify us of any changes since your original application. These include:

  • Change of address
  • Change of contact phone numbers
  • Change of family details
  • Changes to your medical circumstances

Other changes in your circumstances

You should notify us of any other changes that may affect your housing application. This may include, for example, notice from your landlord, issues relating to disrepair in your home that is affecting your health and wellbeing or other relevant issues that you may be experiencing in your home that you feel need to be considered. We may need documents and supporting information showing proof of your change in circumstances and you may be required to be interviewed in relation to changes.
